Chicken nuggets are Easy and quick to make with few ingredients. These Crispy and tender chicken nuggets are my kidoo favorite after-school snack. we are completely hooked with these homemade Chicken nuggets as they are much healthier than Drive-thru.

We usually get chicken from a butcher in form of big pieces and then cut at home as we like.

The only thing you should be careful in preparing these crispy chicken nuggets is cutting the chicken breasts into thin strips.

For frying, I use avocado oil as it has a high smoking point.

And you don’t have to deep fry it completely, you can use 1/4th-inch oil to fry these chicken nuggets.

You can prepare ahead and freeze it and whenever you are ready to have it, take it out and fry or bake it.

For seasoning: I used Salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic and onion powders here but you can experiment with any seasonings that you like … some of the other seasonings that I tried and liked are

Thyme (fresh) instead of Italian seasoning

Lawrys seasoned salt.

These chicken nuggets are freezer friendly.

I recommend doubling or tripling this recipe and freeze them on a cookie sheet for 30-60 minutes and then transfer these chicken nuggets in a freezer safe container or zip lock bags (make single portions of chicken nuggets ziplock bags, so you can thaw one packet as needed)

For baking:

Preheat oven to 375C, place the breaded chicken pieces in a cookie sheet and bake for 15minutes.(To get the golden brown colour, spray nuggets with cooking oil before baking and bake for 13 min then broil nuggets for additional 2 minutes)

Serve chicken nuggets with ketchup or ranch or bang-bang sauce.

Ingredients

  • Chicken breasts: 2
  • Egg: 1
  • Panko Bread crumbs: 1-2 Cups
  • All-purpose flour: ½- 1 Cup
  • Kosher Salt: ½ - 1 teaspoon
  • Freshly ground black Pepper: 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder: 1 teaspoon optional
  • Onion powder: 1 teaspoon optional
  • Oil: 4-5 Tablespoons
  • water : 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  • Cut the chicken breast into ½ inch thick slices and about 112 -2 inches length.
  • In a bowl, crack 1egg add 1tsp of water, salt ½ tsp and pepper ½ tsp. mix well with a whisker.
  • In another bowl, add bread crumbs, flour, salt, onion and garlic powders and mix well.
  • First Dip chicken pieces into the egg mixture and then to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Now take a heavy-bottomed skillet and add 4tbsps oil and keep it on medium heat.
  • When the oil is hot enough, add the chicken pieces to the skillet in a single layer and cook until the sides begin to turn golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Using tongs, flip chicken and cook until both sides are golden brown, about 2-4 minutes.
  • Remove the chicken nuggets to a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Repeat with all the chicken, using additional egg, water, breadcrumbs, flour, spices and cooking oil as necessary.
  • Serve warm with either ranch or ketchup.

Recipe Notes

Freezing Tip: You can freeze them once they are breaded; freeze them flat for 1 hour on a cookie sheet, then transfer to zip lock bags and store up to 3 months.
