Tzatziki (Tsaht-zee-kee) is a light, creamy refreshing sauce or Dip from Greek Cuisine.

Its a healthy After school snack option with sliced vegetables and pita chips.

Tzatziki can be used as Simple sandwich spread, a dip for lamp chops, Gyros, Shawarma or chicken souvlaki.

Ingredients

  • Cucumber: 1 Cup (Grated/Thinly Diced)
  • Plain Greek Yogurt (you can use strained homemade yogurt): 1 12 Cup
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: 1 Tablespoon
  • Chopped Fresh mint and/or Dill Leaves: 2Teaspoons
  • Lemon Juice: 1Teaspoon
  • Garlic Clove (minced) :1
  • Sea Salt : to taste

Instructions:

  1. Peel the cucumber and scoop off the seeds with a spoon.
  2. Finely chop the cucumber and transfer into a bowl squeezing as much water as you can from the cucumber then add kosher salt and keep it for 5 more minutes and squeeze it again(this step helps us to get Thicker consistency for the dip).
  3. Mix Everything except olive oil.
  4. Garnish with olive oil and Cumin powder (optional) on top.

Tips:

Instead of chopping Cucumber you can grate the cucumber.

Tzatziki tastes better if you keep it aside for 30min or so as the flavors blend together.

Tzatziki can be made 2-3 days ahead without adding herbs (add herbs on the same day of serving) and storing in airtight container in refrigerator.
